What is Pilates?

Pilates focuses mainly on the core postural muscles of the body. These postural muscles keep the body balanced and they are essential for supporting the spine. Pilates exercises teach correct breathing and spine alignment to strengthen your core muscles which will help alleviate or even prevent back pain. Pilates is used to increase strength and flexibility of the body without building any muscle mass. Because there are a vast range of different exercises, Pilates is suited for the absolute beginner as well as the fit and agile athlete!

At Pure Pilates we have helped golfers swing better because of their increased core strength, alleviated severe back pain, reduced sciatica problems and helped people touch their toes! • 3

Pilates is safe. Where other forms of exercise might put a strain on your heart, muscles and joints, Pilates, practiced properly (with awareness to your physical limitations), is a completely harmless form of exercise.

Pilates needs no special equipment. While there are a few props that might make your practice more comfortable, the only thing you need in order to do Pilates is you.

  • 5
